Pregnancy is an exciting time, especially in the last few weeks before you pop! Expecting mothers have an instinct called nesting, a result of chemicals pushing new moms to protect and prepare for their new baby by taking control of the environment around them.
Here are 6 simple and important tips to prepare your house for a baby:
Don’t move furniture
Pregnancy hormones can soften your tendons and ligaments, making you more vulnerable to injuries. Avoid moving large furniture and don’t hesitate to ask for help.
Open the windows
A well-ventilated room can improve your home’s air quality – especially when you’re preparing for a newborn. Open your windows in the morning to freshen the space and ventilate your home.
Get rid of the litter tray
Cat poop can be harmful during pregnancy, so try to avoid doing litter duty. Pass this task to your partner or the older kids in the house to ensure you don’t get sick, or get discomfort from bending over to clean the litter box.
Use a steam cleaner
Thorough deep cleaning removes bad bacteria that normally can’t be removed by traditional supermarket cleaners. Not to mention, they also contain harmful chemicals that may damage your baby’s sensitive skin, and pose dangers when inhaled. Steam cleaners are the way to go to ensure deep cleaning without the health risks of regular cleaners.
Leave your shoes at the door
Leaving all shoes, including your guests’, at the door, will help you minimize the amount of dirt and bacteria that gets brought into the house. You keep your floors clean, and the harmful germs are kept outside.
Wear gloves
Don’t forget to wear gloves when cleaning. You have to take care of yourself too as you prepare for birth, and pregnancy can cause or exacerbate sensitive skin.
Dust off
Dust and allergies are BFFs, so it’s important to keep your home as dust-free as possible if you want to avoid allergies during your pregnancy.
