You’re likely no stranger to bulletproof coffee.
If you have gym buddies and friends who swear by it and you’re wondering if you can hop on the bulletproof coffee train, you’ve come to the right place.
Here are some things about bulletproof coffee you need to know to help you decide if it’s good for you:
What is bulletproof coffee?
Bulletproof coffee is a twist on your regular coffee habit by mixing brewed coffee, grass-fed unsalted butter, and MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) coconut oil. This drink is hugely popular among people committed to a low-carb, high-fat diet.
When do you drink bulletproof coffee?
Bulletproof coffee is ideally consumed on an empty stomach and before a workout as it helps boost your energy and endurance. Nutritionists say this is due to the combination of fat and caffeine fueling the body. Bulletproof coffee is extremely high in fat and calories which should replace your breakfast meal.
Is bulletproof coffee good for you?
Many people swear by the weight loss benefits of bulletproof coffee. There are also claims that it can boost metabolism and improve cognitive function. Bulletproof coffee has also anti-inflammatory, mood-boosting, and appetite-suppressing properties. However, there is still very little scientific data to back these up. The three ingredients that make up bulletproof coffee each have health benefits on their own, but there is no existing conclusive research yet that support the health claims of bulletproof coffee.
However, here are some known facts about bulletproof coffee and why it is potentially good for you:
Contains omega 3s
Grass-fed butter contains more omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin K compared to traditional butter. Both aid your body’s anti-inflammatory processes and also support heart health. It also contains vital fat-soluble nutrients that your body needs for optimum immunity and bone health, such as Vitamin E, Vitamin D, and Vitamin A.
Contains coffee
A new study shows that people who drink 3-4 cups of coffee a day are more likely to reap health benefits than harm, lowering risks for heart disease compared to those who don’t drink coffee. Scientists believe it is because of the antioxidant properties of coffee. However, it is important to stress to also use good quality coffee – those that underwent minimal processing and organically grown.
Acts as fuel for those on a keto diet
The keto diet replaces carbs with fat as your energy source. Bulletproof coffee does exactly this to train your brain and body to burn fat for fuel, rather than traditional carbs. Ketones become your body’s primary energy source during fasting periods when glucose is not available. Bulletproof coffee then is beneficial for boosting energy as it elevates your ketone levels in the bloodstream.

I used to drink this every morning…except mine had a raw egg thrown in too. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn’t even taste it was there ? I wasn’t aware of all those added benefits… perhaps I should start drinking it again ?
Wpw never knew about it. So is it available easily?
Good article!
I think the best is coffee as coffee.
I drink it black without cream or sugar.
I have never stopped using coffee, it’s been 5 decades and I love it. It helps and it actually does not raise any blood pressure in some people, for instance, me. It energizes a lot. I use only 1 specific German brand coffee.
Happy New Year!
Wow… didn’t know aaall that..! And trust when I say that here in Italy coffee is a BIG thing 🙂 thanks for sharing!
I read your article. This is the first time that I’ve ever heard of Bullet Proof Coffee. It is interesting. I like this version of coffee (for those that run out of milk and they really want a cup of coffee). Make that cup of coffee, but add ice cream into the coffee, instead of milk. So delicious. Of course, this is for a special treat, not for everyday recipes. Smiles. Peace.
