Look at your vanity table. How many plastic bottled beauty products do you see?
You can probably hear Mother Earth crying in the background now.
If you want to be kinder to the environment and still stick to your 10-step Korean skincare regimen, follow these 4 steps to start a zero-waste beauty routine:
1. Make your own stuff
While purchasing beauty products off store shelves is easier and more convenient, you can actually save more money and the environment if you make your own stuff. Here is a list of beauty products you can make on your own.
2. Use refillable containers
If you have glass jars just lying around in your cupboard, you can reuse them to store your DIY concoctions, or store the beauty products you buy in bulk. You can also use refillable glass pumps and spray bottles. Be on the lookout for zero waste shops around your neighborhood who offer refills for your favorite beauty products.
3. Steer away from products in plastic bottles
There are already way too many plastic bottles floating on the ocean. To make your beauty routine have a lesser environmental impact, you can ditch the plastic bottles and choose solid beauty bars instead. You can find a bar version for shampoos, conditioners, feminine washes, and even self-tanners. They last you between 3-6 times longer than the bottled versions are usually packaged in biodegradable packaging.
4. Be mindful of packaging
In starting a zero-waste beauty routine, you’ll have to be more mindful of how your beauty products are packaged. Purchase locally so your products don’t have to come in excessive bubble wrap. Choose products that are wrapped with compostable or biodegradable packaging.
