A change in season is the best time to bid goodbye to pieces of clothing that have been sitting in your closet just gathering dust and wrinkles, and to put together summer-ready outfits that won’t make you sweat like you just ran a marathon.
Here are 5 tips to get your closet summer-ready:
1. Purge
Purge your wardrobe from clothing that:
- Haven’t been worn in the last 12 to 18 months. There will be exceptions, but keep this as a general rule of thumb when cleaning out your closet.
- Don’t fit you anymore. There is no worse torture than keeping all the beautiful dresses that you know will never fit you anymore. Keep those that can be altered and donate or give away all the clothing items that are several sizes in the past.
Also, make time to try every piece of clothing you own. Maybe invite a friend over to give you honest and helpful feedback. This process ensures you keep only what you can and will wear stylishly and happily.
2. Laundry
As we welcome the summer season, make sure to put-away your winter clothing for storage, clean and stain-free. Do your laundry and you’ll thank yourself in the next fall.
3. Dust Off
If you haven’t done this already when winter rolled in, then clean out and dust off your closet to get it summer-ready. Wipe out the bins and drawers, vacuum the closet floor, dust off each shelf, and you’re in for a pleasantly fresh summer.
4. Inventory
Make your summer a gazillion times more relaxed by putting together this 2019 Summer Capsule Wardrobe to help you pare down to only your wardrobe staples for summer. Take an inventory of the clothing you already have and only shop for the items you’re sure you can wear, even after summer’s over.
5. Organize
Organizing your closet will definitely help your summer #OOTD planning smoother and more efficient. Assign each category of clothing to a specific “home” in your closet so you’ll find them easier and faster, and be out the door to enjoy the sun.
