Don’t we all wish we can take an honest ‘woke up like this’ selfie with naturally clear, blemish-free skin, or cut down on our morning routine and spend less time putting on all the makeup products to make us look flawless?
For those of us not so blessed with the glass skin everyone else covets, there are ways to ‘fake it till you make it’. It’s the idea behind the makeup trend, ‘no makeup’ makeup look.
To help us look our best without having to wear layers of full face foundation, Australian beauty icon and Youtuber, Lauren Curtis, shells out her secrets to faking great skin without using a drop of foundation.
Here are Lauren’s tried and tested steps to confidently wear your skin without foundation:
Moisturize
The first requirement to an effective ‘no makeup’ makeup look is to take better care of your skin! Prioritize skincare – moisturize, hydrate, exfoliate, and nourish your skin. Lauren says even the best primer cannot make up for proper skin care. She says the better you take care of your skin, the less you will need to ‘fake it.’
Prime
The Australian Youtuber recommends using a primer with a light formula so it looks more natural on the skin. Apply it with your fingers so you can really work the product in and achieve a more natural finish.
Conceal
Lauren suggests using concealer sparingly and only applying it to areas that have blemishes. But of course, if you have some acne or irritated skin, use as much as you need. Concealer is best applied with the fingers because they’re warm and pushes the product into the skin.
Highlight
Highlighting has been one of the most popular makeup trends of 2018 and isn’t going away soon. Highlighters help add subtle shimmer to the high points of your face and add the illusion of height and brightness. Lauren explains that by highlighting other areas of your face, it will bring attention away from the areas you’re most insecure about.
Powder and Mascara
If you have dry skin, you can skip this step. For the ladies with combination to oily skin, apply a thin layer of translucent powder on your forehead, nose, and chin to keep the shine away. Wearing mascara can also make your eyes pop more and make your face appear brighter and livelier.
Lip Balm
A lip balm adds a subtle color to your lips while also keeping it soft and hydrated.
